Common questions

The speed shows "--" or "GPS lost"

The phone cannot get a reliable GPS fix. Move the phone where it can see the sky (a dashboard mount is best; a pocket or glovebox weakens the signal), make sure Location is on with Precise location allowed for SpeedGuard, and give it up to a minute after a cold start. Under a bridge or in a tunnel the app deliberately shows "GPS lost" rather than guessing.

Alerts stop when the screen locks (Android)

Some phones kill background apps aggressively. Open the phone's battery settings, find SpeedGuard GH and set it to Unrestricted / Don't optimise. On Xiaomi, Oppo, Vivo, Tecno and Infinix phones also enable "Autostart" for the app. The persistent "monitoring" notification must stay visible while you drive.

Alerts stop in the background (iPhone)

Go to Settings → SpeedGuard GH → Location and choose Always, and make sure Background App Refresh is on. Low Power Mode can also delay alerts.

I cannot hear the voice

Check the Voice prompts toggle in Settings, your media volume, and that the phone is not connected to a Bluetooth device that is switched off. If you chose Twi, Ga, Ewe or Hausa and your phone has no voice for that language, the app speaks English instead.

The limit shown is wrong for this road

Posted signs always take priority. Add your own zone under Settings → My zones at the spot, and the app will use it from then on. Then tell us through the form above with the road name so we can fix the map for everyone.

The speed is different from my car's speedometer

Car speedometers read 3–8% high by design. SpeedGuard's GPS speed is closer to what a speed camera measures. A steady difference of a few km/h is normal.

How do I delete my data?

Everything on the phone: Settings → Privacy & data → Delete all trips, or uninstall the app. Anything you uploaded with cloud backup: send your device key (shown under Privacy & data) through the form above with the topic "Delete my uploaded data" and we will remove it within 30 days. There are no accounts to close.

Does the app pay fines or talk to the police?

No. The "Got a ticket?" screen only explains the official process and opens the official channels (*220# to check fines, *710*0# to pay). The app never handles payment and never sends anything to the police.

Is it a radar detector?

No. It can show camera locations that other drivers have reported, off by default, and it does not interfere with any equipment. Many camera units are mobile, so the only reliable protection is staying under the limit.

Report a bug well

  1. Phone model, OS version and app version (Settings → About).
  2. What you expected and what happened instead.
  3. Roughly where and when, if it concerns a limit or an alert.
  4. If the app crashed, whether it happens every time.
